Carter's Peak

Carter's Peak is a small town situated at the base of an inselberg in the Northwest corner of Ohio, just South of Lake Erie. The town was founded in 1736 by a small group of Scottish settlers lead by one Sir Heironymous Carter. The town would remain rural for over a century, its population only growing substantially after anthracite was found deep beneath the peak in the 1930s. This would lead to a coal boom that would drive the town's population and economy for the next two decades, until a series of substantial mining accidents and cave-ins caused the mines to close in 1958. Carter's Peak would never fully recover from this financially, and it remains a small and secluded town today.
