Carter's Peak

Carter's Peak is a small town situated at the base of an inselberg in the Northwest corner of Ohio, just South of Lake Erie. The town was founded in 1745 by a small group of Scottish settlers lead by one Sir Heironymous Carter. The town would remain rural for years, its population only growing substantially after anthracite was found deep beneath the peak in the 1930s. This would lead to a coal boom that would drive the town's population and economy for the next two decades, until a series of substantial mining accidents and cave-ins caused the mines to close in 1958. Carter's Peak would never fully recover from this financially, and it remains a small and secluded town today.
